Calasole Vermentino Maremma 2011, Rocca di Montemassi, Toscana

Calasole Vermentino Maremma IGT 2011, Rocca di Montemassi, Toscana

This time, I’m highlighting a wine I tasted at the Definitive Italian Wine Tasting 2012 and which I mention in my article of the same name.

Zonin UK have sourced this wine from the Rocca di Montemassi estate in Tuscany and if you’ve never tasted the Vermentino grape variety, give this a try. A popular white grape of Sardinia, it is also grown in Tuscany and makes a refreshing change from other more well-known white wine styles.

Aromatic with notes of pear and a little spice on the nose, followed by almonds, honey and hints of lemon on the palate, I think this wine would make a great accompaniment to fish-based pasta dishes.
