Les Vignobles Foncalieu is one of France's best known co-operatives with 4000ha under vine. Founded in 1967 in the heart of the Languedoc, they bring together 650 wine growers between the Corbières mountain range and the Mediterranean, covering several Occitanie appellations and PGIs.
With a reputation for innovation, quality and fresh styles of wine, Les Vignobles Foncalieu is recognised as one of the 50 most famous wine brands in the world. Specialising in white and rosé wines, accounting for 60% of the company's production in 2018, they were the first Languedoc producer of Sauvignon Blanc. Among their extensive collection of distinctive rosés is Griset, made from the increasingly fashionable greyish pink mutation of that grape, Sauvignon Gris.
Rosés are not just for summer, so it seems appropriate now to recommend one that would accompany fish, sushi and creamy, nutty cheeses for anyone who still enjoys lighter food or non-meat dishes as the cooler autumn/winter weather settles in.
This vegan wine has an attractive pale orangey pink colour, is fresh, aromatic and citrusy with tropical fruit notes, hints of smoke and green herbs plus a savoury and saline edge. The Pays d'Oc is a great source of good value wine with enough variety to suit everyone's tastes. So if you're looking for a rosé that's affordable and a little bit different, this one should suit you nicely!
