Co-op Seasonal Stout

Co-op Seasonal Stout

Frederic Robinsons is one of the historic names of British brewing. Dating back over 185 years, the Stockport-based, multi-award winning, independent family brewer also owns around 250 venues across the North West of England and North Wales.

Robinsons memories

I have quite a few happy memories of Robinson beers from many years ago when I lived in Salford! I don't remember too much though, as the legendary strong ale, Old Tom, served in thirds, halves or mixed 50/50 with bitter, were drinks of choice quite often back then!

Robinsons and Co-op partnership

Over the years, Robinsons has been proudly producing real ale while also looking to the future with new cask, keg and bottle releases. Since my Mancunian days, I've always kept an eye open for new Robinsons beers, so it's great to discover that the brewery has teamed up with Co-op for a limited-edition stout, made with Goldings Hops and a mixed malt bill.

Tasting notes

🎚️ ABV: 4.5%.

👃 Nose: Notes of roasted malt come through clearly with milky coffee and Ovaltine.

😋 Palate: Initial notes of roasted coffee beans and malty chocolate plus hints of sweet malt, caramel and oat milk are followed by a clean, dry finish.

🌡️💡 Serving temperature: This beer really benefits from not being served too cold, as the creaminess comes out more with touches of coffee cream and butterscotch complementing the subtle malty sweetness in the background.

🤤 Food pairings: Just sit back and enjoy on its own while the wind howls outside, or try pairing with aged Cheddar or steak and kidney pie.

🎶🎷 Music choice: Smooth Operator by Sade.

🏪💷 This is a smooth, refreshing style of stout that doesn't feel heavy or cloying. There are robust flavours, but it retains a light touch thanks to its modest alcohol level and fresh, dry finish. The beer costs £2.50 per 500ml bottle, but is on sale until 5th November for £2.10 in selected Co-op stores.
