If there's a wine that truly speaks to the American way of celebrating this Independence Day, then it's one from Jackson Family Wines! Their portfolio of esteemed vineyards along California's cool coastal ridges stretches northwards from Santa Barbara through Monterey, Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino counties, as well as into Oregon's Willamette Valley.
One of their estates is Cambria Estate Winery, nestled in the Santa Maria Valley in Northern Santa Barbara County. Founded in 1986, all their wines are single vineyard expressions, sustainably farmed from estate-grown fruit. Katherine's Vineyard is planted in shallow sand and granite, draining away moisture and restricting vine vigour, forcing the vines to draw nourishment to the fruit, creating full ripeness and balanced acidity.
This light, bright gold-coloured, aromatic wine shows ripe pineapple, stone fruit and buttered toast notes on the nose and palate. Touches of bruised apple and grapefruit develop mid-to-end palate with good acidity and a long finish.
So if you're celebrating this year's Independence Day with a picnic or barbecue, then Cambria 'Katherine's Vineyard' Chardonnay 2015 would be the ideal accompaniment! Available from Hedonism for approx. £27.
