Wine

After twenty years as a winegrower and working for prestigious Languedoc estate Château La Condamine Bertrand, Bruno Andreu decided to establish a new brand. So, in January 2018, he founded his own company near Béziers to bring a fresh range of terroir-expressive quality wines to the region.

Buying a former Languedoc winery in the village of Montblanc, still in its original state, Bruno and his wife Emmanuelle brought it back to life by making significant investments. "The vat room had been turned into a theatre and the entire building was derelict", recounts Bruno, who invested over €200,000 in renovating more than 1,000m² of buildings. Renovation and building work, a new roof and electrical system, along with the arrival of winemaking equipment set the tempo for the wine estate's new lease of life over the past year. "My entire team joined me in this new project. Our clients also placed their trust in us and encouraged us", commented Bruno.

Bruno Andreu has wines maturing in 200 casks. There are four distinct collections - PGI Pays d'Oc; 'Aromatique' varietal wines; AOP traditional estates/chateaux and Maison Bruno Andreu's premium Icon offerings. A total of 700,000 bottles will be marketed in twenty countries in 2019 and eight new labels will join the portfolio too. He prefers the moniker 'creator of wines' to 'négociant', mirroring his ambition to seek out real gems by sourcing in the region's prestigious appellations, e.g. Tautavel, Caramany, Minervois, Pézénas and from its independent winegrowers. His ultimate goal is to reveal Languedoc's prime vineyard sites.

Elixir Rouge 2017 is a blend of Syrah and Grenache, aged for 12 months in French oak. The nose is full of ripe forest berries and black cherries with touches of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. The palate is round and smooth with plenty of juicy bramble fruit and black cherry character. A dusting of cocoa powder, a touch of sweet vanilla, some garrigue herbs and a light savoury edge of liquorice counterbalance the fruity richness. As a food pairing, the wine would be perfect for grilled or roasted red meat.

Part of Bruno Andreu's Icon selection, this cuvée achieved the Sud De France Top 100. Available in the UK at Elegant Wines, it has an RRP of £12-£16.
