The coronavirus pandemic seems to have made us more acutely aware of mental health problems. We all know people, perhaps in addition to ourselves, who've been struggling with lockdown and the effects of social isolation. For many, mental health remains a taboo subject, but progress is being made and various avenues for discussion are opening up. With more celebrities admitting openly to the difficulties they have experienced, there's far less of a perceived stigma these days in talking about mental health issues.
Talk Club provides a support network and community by hosting talking and listening clubs all over the country and abroad with an aim to change the way we look after our mental health and end suicide.
… and now a new initiative from Bristol Beer Factory aims to shed more awareness of the problems of mental health. The hugely creative South Bristol-based brewery has launched its first alcohol-free beer in collaboration with Talk Club, a male mental fitness charity.
Clear Head is a 0.5% ABV beer, packed with citrus, apple and stone fruit flavours from Mosaic and Citra hops. The malt bill consists of Maris Otter Pale as primary, with Crystal, Wheat and Caramalt too. Lactose adds a smooth and creamy character to the subtle malty sweetness, while the lingering finish remains crisp and dry with a refreshing bitter hop edge.
Sam Burrows, Bristol Beer Factory Sales Director, commented: "We approached brewing Clear Head, as we do with any of our beers, using quality ingredients to produce a bold, flavoursome taste. However, Clear Head isn't just an awesome alcohol-free IPA. This beer will save lives, because it has the power to prevent men becoming mentally ill."
Five percent of every bottle or pint sold will go directly to Talk Club to "help us keep building this community of positivity and mental fitness", adds Sam. "This is good for all men and their partners, parents, kids, friends and colleagues", he continues.
Clear Head is ideal for any retailer looking to tap into Dry January and beyond. It is available in 330ml bottles through Bristol Beer Factory's website shop. When pubs and restaurants reopen, it will also be available in keg throughout 2021. RRP is £2.20 per bottle or £22.00 for a case of twelve.
